It takes hard work and sacrifice for the "Silver Spoon" to get to success. But they may also feel that certain assignments or work is beneath them and may give up easier. "The Scrapper" started at a low point. She was destined for failure yet actually succeeded.

"The Scrapper" shows grit

Scrappers are moved by the belief that they can only control themself. When things don't turn out well, Scrappers ask what they can do differently to create a better outcome. They don't give up on themselves.They know humour can get them through the hard times. They find people who can bring out the best in them and are invested in their success.

What propels Scrappers

There are two types of candidates that apply to job offers. They are both qualified.<ul><li>"The Silver Spoon" clearly had advantages and was destined for success. For example, Ivy League, 4.0, flawless resume.</li><li>"The Scrapper" had to fight against all odds to get to the same point. For example, job-hopping and odd jobs like cashier and singing waitress.</li></ul>The job-hopping could demonstrate inconsistency, lack of focus, and unpredictability, or can show a committed struggle against obstacles. At the least, the Scrapper deserves an interview.

Many people experienced early hardships such as poverty, abandonment, death of a parent while young, learning disabilities, alcoholism and violence.  Yet, studies show that even the worst circumstances can result in growth and transformation. In spite of tremendous odds, people can succeed. They embrace their trauma and hardships as key elements of who they've become. Without those experiences, they may not have developed the grit to become successful.
