Ackerman bargaining provides a precise system for counteroffers. The technique follows these steps:

  • Set your target price (what you want)
  • Start at 65% of target (extreme but not insulting)
  • Calculate three raises: 85%, 95%, and 100% of target
  • Make increments progressively smaller
  • Use precise non-round numbers in your final offer
  • Add non-monetary items at each stage
