We’ve been seeing motion everywhere: flickering typography swooshes that mutate until it comes together to form the name of a brand that wants to reflect its dynamism; squishy shapes wiggle and buoyant logos bob to hint at a devil-may-care, cheerful personality.In 2022, motion cannot be an afterthought. Instead, it will become the centrepiece of a project, a lens through which designers start viewing the infinite possibilities of crafting a brand story that is far more dynamic than static images designed to warp and move.

This trend points at an understated intention of moving away from the hi-def, ‘perfect’ image, a sentiment that perhaps is rooted in the recent renaissance of film photography. This style feels new although it’s old. This drive to create an imperfect image definitely has something to do with the slow revival of film, the very feel of the medium which is frankly unmatchable, and the space it creates for honest mistakes.While specific details like light leaks and fish-eye lenses might be left behind, the broader trend itself is highly adaptable, and will stand the test of time.

The 90s Are Back: Retro Age In 2022

There is something about amorphous, squidgy blobs and shiny liquids in 3D and digital art that seemed very on-trend over the past year. Sugar-coloured, cushiony structures popped up <a href="https://www.itsnicethat.com/news/reece-owen-ryan-vautier-sarah-blomey-bimini-bon-boulash-gay-times-cover-digital-221121">on magazine covers</a>, and hypnotic, <a href="https://www.commarts.com/project/29301/the-tide-identity">elastic-band-like liquids</a> shimmered and pulsated in a kind of tranced rhythm. Leaning on a sense of randomness and abstraction, these fluid and glinting organic shapes – with no sharp angles or edges in sight – shift and move like aquatic creatures, in ways that defy logic and any notions of gravity.

Techniques and ideas born in the 1890s, and seen again in the heady years of the late 90s, became recurring themes across commercial and personal projects. With misty gradients and grainy, tactile textures, the aesthetic pull of the medium was hard to escape: one cursory scroll on Instagram and it pops up in <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CRoT1-OBosU/">posters</a>, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CGIDH_tB5Dk/">album covers</a> and endless <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CUkxeHwLAR6/">editorial illustrations</a>.The complexity of these typefaces draws on the beauty of the eccentric graphics of the 60s and 70s, and its contemporary update, which makes it more than just a revival

If there ever was a visual riposte to uncertain, challenging times that manifested through the reflective microcosm that is the world of design, then the recent rise in the use of dramatic, eye-searing colours was definitely it. Why people fall for misinformation - Joseph Isaac

If you login to Instagram right now and search for #depression, you’ll see a warning. It reads: “Posts with words you’re searching for often encourage behavior that can cause harm and even lead to death.”You can bypass this warning and see the tagged posts. Or you can click on a “Get Support” button that leads you to depression-focused resources or recommendations. The first of those recommendations is “Talk to a Friend.” It encourages you to call or text someone you trust.

Social media may be dangerous

According to reporting from CNET, Instagram and other social media sites first started to implement these warnings last year. They began by flagging content related to eating disorders and negative body image, and have since expanded the program to depression and other forms of psychological distress.The fact that social sites like Instagram are directing vulnerable people away from their platforms and toward real-world connections may not seem like a big deal. But it is a big admission.

The REPORT

For years, some researchers — notably Jean Twenge, PhD, at San Diego State University — have been trying to warn us that social media can be risky, perhaps especially for young people or those with mental health challenges. But social media’s defenders have often argued that these platforms allow vulnerable or marginalized people to connect with others like themselves, which is surely a good thing.This defense was always speculative. There is very little evidence indicating that social media-based support groups or communities are beneficial.

Advice From Experts

Also, researchers have found that members of vulnerable groups may feel better after spending time away from social media. For example, a 2020 study on LGBTQ youths who attended a social media-free summer camp found “across the board” reductions in depressive symptoms among those teens who’d spent the most time on social before attending the camp. “When we’re vulnerable we tend to reach out via social media, but those are also the times when social media may present the biggest challenges for us,” says Brian Primack, a professor of public health and medicine at the University of Arkansas.

Researches 

If you can’t stay away from social media, Primack recommends trying to limit your time on it as much as possible. If you’re a heavy user, trying to trim your habit to less than two hours a day may be beneficial, his research suggests.He also offers this advice: “Focus on small groups, including chat clusters with one or a few people at a time. This can help you focus on the people you feel closest to.” In other words, try to make your time on social media more like a real-world gathering with friends.

And when in doubt, it’s better not to mess with these systems. Starting a war to implement democracies is an example of messing with a complex system. Clueless politicians compare a local dictator not with the local alternatives but with a Norwegian prime minister. These people keep staying at their jobs even their reckless decisions because they don’t have skin in the game. Nobody paid anything for the Iraqi invasion or for supporting “Arab spring” failed uprisings.

Complex Systems Don’t Work With Simple Cause/Effect

It’s perfectly rational to overestimate some tail risks because you can’t consider them in isolation.  Driving after 2 glasses of wine once will not be extremely dangerous, but doing so every day is.When you measure tail risks in the laboratory you only consider one tail risks at a time, and that’s why their conclusions are wrong. Subjects are being rational in overestimating the risk because, chances are, they are likely already running several tail risks in their lives.

In societies, minorities can come to dictate the rules to the majority.This usually happens because of asymmetry or because when the majority is either too flexible, too accommodating, or too indifferent. A case of asymmetry is between smokers and non-smokers. A smoker can sit in a smoke-free area but a non-smoker cannot sit in a smoker area, so the non-smokers will prevail even if they are the minority.However, this can become an issue when the minority prevails because it’s more aggressive or more intolerant.

Abundance is a paradox. Environments of abundance are bad for the median consumer but extremely good for a small number of conscious ones. Average consumers are doomed to the tyranny of instinct. Meanwhile, consumers at the top are propelled by unlimited access to nutritious food and information.

Gresham’s Law is a finance concept that states that bad money drives out good money until only bad money is left. This law can explain why the median consumer reads low-quality information online. If you check almost any major publication, the most popular stories are opinionated and fear-inducing, drawing readers in.

And yet, as the Paradox of Abundance predicts, Twitter is also one of the world’s top intellectual communities. It’s the bedrock of most of our social and intellectual life. It’s a place to make friends, raise your ambitions, and connect directly with people at the top of their fields. And yet, most people use Twitter to consume information with no nutritional value.

The Ocean Named Twitter

Ideally, a world of information abundance would bring the best to the top. Using a classic Econ 101 argument, competition should benefit consumers by improving quality. Practically, curation platforms would wade through millions of posts every day and highlight the best of the best. But that’s not what happens. On most platforms, low-nutrition content is the easiest to find and the most likely to be consumed. Superficial article recommendations sit at the bottom of thousands of articles, pollute the Internet, and tarnish the credibility of media publications.

If you create a great product, communities will inevitably form, with or without your help. However, building a community around a mediocre product will be very difficult.

Create something worth building a community around

Most people are oblivious to communities forming around their product. If you have a great product, you have to find self-appointed evangelists and ask them to help you. If you can't find them, you may not have a great product.

Identify and recruit your thunderlizards

A community needs an identifiable hero and inspiration from within the company. Many employees would like to build a community, but one person needs to prioritise this task. Therefore, hire a person to be a community champion.

Assign one person the task of building a community

Your product should be "customisable," "extensible," and "malleable." Consider Adobe Photoshop. Without the company's plug-in architecture, a community might not have developed quickly. But giving them something to chew on means your engineers did not create the perfect product. This will engage and grow the community.

Give people something concrete to chew on
