There is a certain very interesting book contributed to by neuroscientists Amir Levine and Rachel Heller entitled "Attached. The New Science Of Adult Attachment And How It Can Help You Find - And Keep - Love". The human brain is programmed to seek and need to receive support from others. As it turns out, we need to feel a sense of security in the bonds we form, whether they are formed in the context of friendship, family, or love.

While many of us may not like the term used next, there is a clear record at the neural level that humans are emotionally dependent. This does not mean, however, that we need to see this dependence as entrapment by another person or group of people.
