<ul><li>Growth and change is a necessity in life. Having the ability to question all of your own beliefs and altering them when better ideas are presented to you is one of the keys to progress. This doesn't mean that you cant hold strong opinions about things, it just means that you shouldn't get married to your beliefs and if you do, be ok with cheating on them. </li><li>Great traders change their opinions all the time which is why it is useless asking good traders what positions they are holding because, by the end of the day, they may have just bought a lot of positions in the opposite direction.</li></ul>

Question Everything

<ul><li>Its impossible to know if our ideas are truly correct until they are proven to be incorrect. Especially in the cases where our ideas are based on past experiences and knowledge.</li><li>This is related to the ideas represented by David Hume where “<a href="https://quotefancy.com/quote/1246762/David-Hume-No-amount-of-observations-of-white-swans-can-allow-the-inference-that-all">No amount of observations of white swans can allow the inference that all swans are white, but the observation of a single black swan is sufficient to refute that conclusion</a>."</li><li>This just goes to show that we can never be certain about our ideas/ theories and must always be openminded. </li></ul>

Right vs Wrong Ideas

<ul><li>Striving for 'good explanations' is the first step. These are explanations that are hard to vary, where changing the details would ruin the explanation. e.g. "eating sand cures the common cold" is a bad explanation because if it doesn't work then I could just say that you didn't eat enough sand.</li><li>I believe that another big factor involved in generating positive change is through open dialogue. Having open discussion with people who challenge your views allows you to remain open to new/ different ideas (as long as you aren't just using this to argue with people-you must remain willing to change).</li></ul>

Going outside when you first wake up for about 2-10 minutes as well as in the evening for a few minutes will greatly improve sleep, mood, and energy as well as other things.<ul><li>This is because the light (or lack of it) acts as cues to your body, telling it that this is the time to be awake (achieved due to the effect of the sun), and in the evening, that this is the time to settle down</li></ul>-is also the case when inside your home. You should be increasing your exposure to (natural) light in the morning, but in the evening you should be decreasing light exposure(including the blue light from our devices)

Improving Sleep

Huberman notes many simple (but effective) ways of reducing/ preventing feelings of stress in our daily lives. These include:<ul><li>Expanding vison: This method can be used wherever you are and involves consciously increasing your field of vision so you are using your peripheral vision instead of being focused on a small area</li><li>Double Breathing: Double breathing is achieved by inhaling deeply through the nose and then quickly following that with a second short and sharp inhale (without exhaling). Then a long exhale.</li></ul>This alone has been proven to greatly reduce stress even after the first breath

Reducing Stress

Hydration plays a very important role in maintaining a high-functioning brain and body. Ensuring you are sufficiently hydrated throughout the day is the first step, however, Huberman mentions a hydration strategy for performing physically or mentally taxing work at a high standard. here it is:<ul><li>Your body weight (in pounds) divided by 30 is the amount of water (in ounces) you should drink about every 20 mins when performing physical/ mental tasks.</li></ul>

I will first write out the quote in plain unedited format for those who don't care about what I have to say, but will add my own understanding in an idea below for those who would like to hear my view. enjoy

Idea #1 - Learn to Learn

What I took from this was the realisation that my priorities were not straight because I was focussing too much on improving my so called "skills". This is not necessarily a bad thing, but while doing so I was not thinking at all about improving the traits that lead to being a person who actually can improve and grow. Having traits like Ryan mentioned (Humility, self awareness, etc...) are more important then just trying to improve in one specific area because these are traits that actually allow you to be a good learner and have the ability to grow and improve

Idea #1 - My Understanding

"Talk depletes us. Talking and doing fight for the same resources. Research shows that while goal visualization is important, after a certain point our mind begins to confuse it with actual progress. The same goes for verbalization"

Idea #2 - Talk less, Do more

This has been (and still sometimes is) a problem of mine. I would always talk about the new cool thing that Im starting to whoever would listen. This created real problems for me because this verbalisation of what I was doing (or planned to do) felt like actual progress to my brain. This meant that I felt less motivated to work and to take action towards the goal because In my mind I had already done so by speaking about it. In contrast, now I only ever talk about what I'm working on to 1-2 people who are closest to me. Unless I'm far enough into the project where I feel it is safe to share

Idea #2 - My Understanding

 Idea #3 - Learn, Teach, Challenge

I agree with this fully. The biggest takeaway for me from this was an idea that has been drilled into me by various people and mentors. This is the idea of teaching - to learn. There was a study which proved this point where students who were asked to learn a topic with the intention to teach it to others did better on a test then those who just studied the topic normally. This is because when our intention is to teach, we aim to understand the subject fully instead of just memorising terms and ideas. This alone has allowed me to learn and actually understand, more then I could have ever hoped

Ego Is the Enemy

Motivation is something that comes and goes as it pleases. This means that waiting for motivation to strike to start working on something will result in very unreliable and inconsistent work habits.

Don't wait for motivation to find you

The way around this barrier is to utilise the motivation loop. This is a infinite loop which consists of -ACTION-INSPIRATION-MOTIVATION- in a continuous circle. To take advantage of this loop you need to take action (even when the motivation to do so isn't there) which, as per the loop, will then lead to inspiration then motivation and so on.

Find motivation yourself

Do the hard work... especially when you don't feel like it

Acting in this way will drastically improve feelings of motivation in your life and in doing so will allow you to work not only longer and at a better standard but you will also feel more satisfied about yourself and your work
