And you feel a deep sense of purpose and satisfaction every time you finish one.Every small achievement releases dopamine in your brain. It makes you happy. And you want more of it. So, how should your tasks be?

1 — Fulfillment = Purpose + Interest

<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Align your tasks to your values and long-term vision of life. You can’t go against your nature.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Design tasks that relate to the things you like. They’ll never catch your interest otherwise.</li></ul>

You will always be happy to do the things you mastered and can finish easily. That’s the good part of life.Happiness is a prerequisite of flow. You can only go so far if you’re unhappy doing what you do. Eventually, you will run out of motivation. So, what will you do then?You will probably procrastinate. You will hate doing those chores using brute force. And you will abandon the project.Happy tasks, however, will make you connect with the present moment. You will feel in control. And you will experience a sense of timelessness.So, how can you create happy tasks?

2 — Happiness = Interest + Mastery

<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Design tasks around the things that make you happy. Link them together, and make sure you know why you’re doing them.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Delegate things that someone else would do faster (except if you are learning). Focus on the things you are good at and make you feel confident.</li></ul>

You can reach the flow state only if your goals are clear. You have to understand what you have to do. But this means you must master the tasks you are trying to achieve. Otherwise, everything would be uncertain.Once the goal is clear, you can focus on it. But if it’s not, you might focus on the wrong things. Then, you’ll need to fix the work you already did. And you will never reach the flow state.

Also, a clear goal means acknowledging the requirements. What do you need to finish a task with no interruptions? Answer this question before each activity, and you’ll increase your efficiency.Clarity, however, doesn’t only mean mastery — it’s also about the challenge. Doing the same activity every day is boring. And you won’t always reach flow. But if you challenge yourself, your motivation will keep you focused.

Discipline is not enough. Only discipline and motivation together will help you to reach your goals. And to keep your motivation high, you can change your situation or how you think about it.According to science (and Fishback), your motivation is higher at the beginning and end of a goal because you are excited when you start a new project or when you are about to finish it. So, building many short goals is better than yearly goals that take months to accomplish.

I built a few blogs — I can’t remember how many. And I forged two newsletters.But do you think I knew what my purpose was until recently? No, I didn’t. It became a purpose when I understood I would get back to writing no matter how hard I failed.

Explore every possibility — there is no other way of understanding what you want to become in life.J.K. Rowling didn’t set out the purpose to become a world-renowned author. She followed her curiosity and passion and didn't care about the setbacks. And she found her purpose.The find your purpose myth assumes that purpose is a fixed destination you already know. But it’s neither of those things.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">You never know it.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">And it can always change.</li></ul>

But Dwek herself clarified that a growth mindset requires constant effort, discomfort, and failure.Think about a student who struggles with math. Positive thinking alone will not help him. He would need guidance and detailed advice. But mostly, he has to do exercises and fail them.It’s not about the attitude — it’s about the action, feedback, and helpful growth conditions.

A growth mindset is powerful. And you should have one if you want to become successful. But it’s not a magic solution.
